Policy changes
Can I change the policy holder?
Yes, if your policy is due for renewal, simply call us on 056 444 4444. Our phone lines are open from Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm and Saturday, 9am to 3pm.
When can I change my cover?
You can change or cancel your plan at renewal. A cooling-off period of 14 days applies from your renewal date. If you are not at renewal, you can call us on 056 444 4444 to discuss your options.
With a standard health insurance policy, you are covered for one full year from the date your cover begins.
30 days before your cover is due to end, you will receive a renewal pack from us, either online in MyVhi or in the post, depending on your contact preferences.
Can I cancel my policy?
You can cancel your policy at your renewal date, by calling us on 056 444 4444.
If you would like to cancel your cover outside of renewal time, you can call us on the number above to discuss.
12 month contract
All policies are 12 month contracts and contracts and we may seek to recover the losses and expenses incurred by us, if you breach your contract mid-year. This will not apply if you plan on travelling overseas for more than six months, cancel your Vhi healthcare plan and replace it with Vhi International.
International plans

Can I add someone to my policy?
You can add people to your policy at any time throughout the year.
To add an adult or dependant, call us on 056 444 4444. Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm and Saturday, 9am to 3pm. Additional costs apply per person.
Newborns
Newborns can be added for free within their first 13 weeks, from their date of birth to first renewal. No waiting periods apply in this instance.
Can I remove someone from my policy?
Yes. You can remove someone from your policy when you are renewing it. Exceptions to this are considered under certain circumstances.

I'm pregnant and receiving maternity care. Do I need to let you know?
Yes. You can call us on 056 444 4444 to let us know if you are receiving care as a public, semi-private or private patient, and your chosen hospital. If you would like to view your maternity benefits, log in to MyVhi, select ‘Documents’, and here you will find all of your benefits listed in your Table of Benefits document.

Additional policy questions
Can I increase my dental or travel cover?
Yes. If you have a travel or dental plan and wish to increase your cover, you can call us on 01 650 2697. You can also choose from a variety of add-ons or additional cover like winter sports, trip extensions, gadget cover and more. These can be added at any time throughout the year, though the cost will remain the same for the full policy year, regardless of when you purchase.

Dental
Simply fill in your details and let us know what you need, and we will provide options suitable to you. You can begin your dental quote.
Travel
Our MultiTrip plan provides annual travel insurance for all your trips, up to 180 days, like short trips/holidays abroad. You can begin a quote for MultiTrip now.
Vhi International provides worldwide health insurance for six months or more abroad. It is suitable if you are travelling, studying or working abroad for this period. You can get a quote from our International portal.

I am moving abroad. What options are available to me?
Vhi International is a health plan built to look after your healthcare needs, if you are moving abroad for six months or more to work, study or travel. You can get a quote with our International portal.
Here’s how it works
Vhi International provides cover towards benefits like in-patient, day care and emergency or planned treatment when you are away. It is designed for residents of the Republic of Ireland moving abroad who intend to take up residency here again at some point in the future.
Switching
If you have a regular health plan with us, you can switch to Vhi International. You can call us on 056 775 3200 to discuss. Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm GMT and Saturday, 9am to 3pm GMT.
Can I change my cover outside of my renewal period?
If your circumstances have changed and you wish to discuss your cover, you can call us on 056 444 4444 - Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm and Saturday, 9am to 3pm.
Your Vhi Healthcare contract is for a period or one year and can only be changed at your renewal date, as specified in our terms and conditions.
I am leaving my job which provides health insurance. What are my options?
Depending on how your policy is set-up, you may have a number of options:
1. Take over payment of the policy yourself, and continue with no changes to your cover. This option is available to you if you pay for your policy in full through your salary, otherwise known as a ‘Deduction Group Scheme’. There may be an additional charge, as it will not qualify for any group reductions it may have had.
2. Take out a new plan, once you cancel this one.
3. Cancel your policy from the date that your policy is paid up until by your employer.
