About Vhi's urgent care clinics

Vhi members can drop into any of our urgent care clinics when needed - no appointment is necessary. We treat adults and children from age 1 upwards. Whether it's a sprain, an insect bite, ear infection or fever, our clinical team of doctors and nurses are here to help.

We treat

Chest infections and respiratory symptoms. 

Cuts and lacerations.

Ear and throat infections.

Eye and ear conditions.

Fractures and dislocations (except hip/pelvic/thigh).

Insect and animal bites.

Joint, muscular and back pain.

Mild abdominal discomfort and infections.

Minor burns and scalds.

Minor gynaecological symptoms.

Removal of foreign objects (skin, ears, eyes).

Skin infections and inflammation.

Sports injuries.

Sprains and soft tissue injuries.

Urinary symptoms.

Urgent Dental Care is an out-of-hours, appointment only service at Vhi 360 Health Centre, Carrickmines. Further details are available in the 'Frequently Asked Questions' section further down the page. 

We don't treat

Cardiac or chest pain.

Hip/pelvic/thigh fracture.

Loss of consciousness.

Pregnancy related conditions.

Serious breathing difficulties.

Serious head, neck or back injuries.

Severe abdominal pain.

Severe burns.

Costs and cover

Cover: a number of plans provide 100% cover for urgent care. If you are fully covered, initial investigations and treatments are included. As not all plans provide cover for this, you are advised to check your plan details. 

Excess: typically €50/€75 on plans with cover for this service. It is plan dependent. 

Follow-up care: many plans include cover for a number of visits after the initial consultation, if you require it. No excess is usually applicable, though it is plan dependent.

Return visits: if you return for another visit regarding the same issue/condition, 72 hours after your original appointment, an additional excess will apply. The amount €50/€75 depends on your plan.

Frequently asked questions

No. You will need to go to your nearest maternity hospital for maternity care. If you are pregnant and need treatment for an unrelated condition, for example a suspected broken wrist, we can treat this.

Service

For urgent dental care such as severe dental and facial pain, dental and soft tissue infections, fractured teeth/tooth, cracked or displaced tooth/teeth, sport related injuries, abscess, root fracture among others.

 

What to expect

Our out-of-hours dental team will conduct an assessment, clinical examination and radiographic examination, if indicated. A treatment plan and follow-up will be arranged, if required. Referral to our maxillofacial consultant will take place for those who may require dental surgery.

To make an appointment, call 01 448 2450. We offer a limited walk-in option for this service also. 

No, we do not provide blood tests at our urgent care clinics.

If your condition requires an urgent specialist opinion or additional investigations such as bloods or a CT scan, you will be given a referral to attend your nearest emergency department.

If attending the clinic, be advised of the following: 

If you think that you or your child may have measles, mumps, chickenpox or flu, please tell us at reception on arrival.  

Please wear a mask (available at reception), practice safe cough etiquette and wash your hands.

If you have any other viral symptoms (including sore throat, runny nose, headache or fever) or unexplained new rash associated with swollen glands or a temperature, please do not walk in to a clinic - call us to make an appointment.
