Time to Talk - Vhi Hosts Live Fertility Snapchat Q&A

29th November, 2016 – In a first for the Irish health insurance market, Vhi will host a fertility Snapchat questions and answers session between 7 and 9pm on Wednesday November 30th.  The Q&A will enable participants to ask individual questions on the area of fertility and will also see information provided regarding the most commonly asked questions on the topic.

The Snapchat Q&A is just one element of Vhi’s “Let’s talk about Fertility” Campaign which has been created to promote the addition of a holistic fertility benefit on some of the company’s most popular health insurance plans.   As part of the campaign, Vhi have developed a unique online fertility quiz which aims to raise the Fertility IQ of the nation and which can be accessed on www.vhifertilityquiz.com.  Vhi also created a dedicated web page containing information and blogs on fertility and related topics which can be accessed on www.vhi.ie/fertility.  The campaign aims to encourage people to talk more freely about the topic as well as providing information on the area.

Research conducted by Vhi to coincide with the campaign found that nearly half of those surveyed (47%) felt there was a stigma attached to infertility in Ireland and six in ten women felt that fertility issues was the topic least likely to be spoken of.  This is despite the fact that one in every six couples will encounter issues when they start trying for a family.

Dr Bernadette Carr, Medical Director, Vhi, commented “Fertility issues are more likely to be considered unspoken of among those in younger age groups i.e. under 40 therefore we felt it was crucial to look at new and innovative ways of reaching this audience to discuss this topic.  As our research has shown, the subject of fertility is still somewhat taboo in Ireland and we believe this needs to change.  The Snapchat Q&A will give participants a unique opportunity to discuss questions around fertility and get helpful input into this key area.”
