Vhi introduces new Paediatric Outpatient Clinic for Vhi customers

From GP to Consultant within 48 hours

7th August 2018: Vhi today announced the opening of a new Vhi Paediatric Clinic which will provide Vhi customers with access to a rapid access paediatric outpatient clinic. Vhi customers will be able to get an appointment with a consultant paediatrician within 48 hours of being referred by the GP. The service is now available and is adjoining Vhi SwiftCare Clinic facility in Dundrum, Dublin 16 with plans to expand the service to Swords, County Dublin and Cork soon.

Vhi Paediatric Clinic is an appointment led service and access to the Clinic is by GP or consultant referral only.  The Clinic will provide treatment to patients up to 16 years of age for a wide range of conditions such as new baby born checks, respiratory issues, reflux, development milestone checks, failure to thrive, colic, recurrent infections and ENT issues. The Vhi Paediatric Clinic is a completely independent and separate facility to the Vhi SwiftCare Clinic.

The Vhi rapid access paediatric service is delivered by a team of specialist paediatric health professionals including Dr Turlough Bolger, an emergency medicine paediatrician; Dr Louise Kyne, a general paediatrician with a special interest in developmental paediatrics; Dr Sinead Murphy, a consultant paediatrician with an interest in food and nutrition; Cathy Monaghan, a senior paediatric dietitian and Tara Larkin, a specialist paediatric nurse and GP liaison.

Commenting on the service, Dr Sinead Murphy, Consultant Paediatrician said “we want to ensure that children and their families get timely access to a specialist paediatrician thereby ensuring they receive the required investigation, treatment, support and education they need. We believe that having immediate access to a specialist paediatric dietician and GP liaison Nurse optimises the service for families and referring GP’s.”

The new Vhi Paediatric benefit is available on the majority of Vhi’s health insurance plans by direct payment and is not subject to an excess. Children up to the age of 16 can avail of the benefit and it will be provided in accordance with the child’s plan. Benefit is also available for follow-up treatment.
