Yes. You need to have a private health insurance plan that includes at least €65,000 cover for overseas medical emergencies. Your MultiTrip policy works alongside this cover. Make sure your health insurance is active when any incident happens.
Yes, unlike most other travel insurance plans on the market, MultiTrip from Vhi Healthcare includes cover for pre-existing conditions up to the full limit of your medical cover. However, your health insurance plan must have overseas cover, and your pre-existing medical condition covered under the terms and conditions of that domestic private medical insurance plan. Please see our eligibility section for circumstances not covered.
Eligibility
We cannot offer cover under the following circumstances, even if you suffer an illness, injury or a new or change to a medical condition that is unrelated:
• If you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
• If you are not fit to travel or fit to undertake your trip.
• If you are travelling intending to receive medical treatment.
• If you are travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner.
Please note: if you are 80 years or over, cover is limited only to the overseas cover limits on your domestic private medical insurance plan. Pre-existing conditions will not be covered.
You have no cover on your MultiTrip policy until the start date of the policy. Your cover, including cancellation cover will only begin from the start date you choose.
The ideal time to purchase your policy is prior to booking your trip. This will ensure that cancellation cover will be available to you, should something happen to prevent you from travelling. Please refer to the terms and conditions for MultiTrip.
Yes. We have a winter sports add-on that can be included on your policy. If you are purchasing a MultiTrip policy as a new customer, you will be given the option to add this to your policy when purchasing. Once you have purchased and you are an existing MultiTrip customer you can add this add-on at any time prior to travelling in MyVhi.
Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the trip duration limits on this policy. If a lower limit applies on your domestic private medical insurance plan, claims under 'Medical Expenses' (Hospital Treatment) will only be paid if you have a valid claim under your domestic private medical insurance plan.

Enjoy complimentary access to a LoungeKey™ airport lounge courtesy of Vhi MultiTrip travel insurance. This is a free and exclusive service available to you once your flight is delayed for more than one hour.
You will need to register your flight(s) online on vhi.loungeaccess.ie at least 2 hours before your scheduled departure time. Once you have registered, you will be contacted with details on how to access the lounge if your flight’s delayed by one or more hours.

Yes, there is an excess of €95 on your MultiTrip policy, which you will pay per person, per claim. You can waive that excess for a very small cost by purchasing the excess waiver.
If you are purchasing a MultiTrip policy as a new customer, you will be given the option to add the excess waiver to your policy when purchasing. If you are an existing customer you can purchase this at your renewal.
Gulf and Middle East related
If you are unable to return home as planned, your Vhi MultiTrip policy will automatically extend at no extra cost until you can return home at the earliest opportunity. Claims unrelated to the hostilities would only be accepted under the “Medical Cover” section. Your trip limits and/or trip extension will be considered accordingly.
Contact your airline or travel provider to understand what alternative arrangements they are making and whether your flight will be rerouted, delayed or cancelled. If your flight is cancelled your airline will refund the costs of your flight or offer an alternative flight.
You can change your trip destination providing that your trip remains within the policy region and trip limits you agreed at purchase (you will find this information within your policy certificate). We recommend confirming a new destination in line with DFA guidance.
Within 14 days of receiving your policy documentation, if you no longer feel the policy is suitable and you wish to cancel, we can cancel the policy and provide a full refund. After 14 days you may still cancel your policy, but your refund will be calculated as per your policy Terms and Conditions.
If your booking was part of a package holiday, you will need to contact the provider to see if you are entitled to a refund. If you booked elements of your trip separately and haven’t already had contact with the provider, you should contact them.
