Michael Carroll
I completed my MSc Business Management in Smurfit in 2020. I always had an interest in business and in the Irish healthcare industry, so I saw the Vhi Graduate Programme as the perfect fit.
The programme afforded me the opportunity to work in a number of areas within the business, learning and developing a varied set of skills along the way. My preferred area was Finance, and I discovered that the CFP&A team was aligned with my longer term career aspirations.
During my rotation, I presented to the Executive Management Team, which provided useful learnings and an experience that I am really proud of. The team/department gave me space to learn and encouraged me to continue further studies. As a result, I am now undertaking my CIMA qualification.

I joined the Graduate Programme - Tech Stream in Vhi in October 2020. I had just completed my Masters in Data Analytics when I applied for the role. I knew it would be a great start to my career in IT, helping me develop a strong foundation to build my career on.
Initially, I worked as a developer on the content management platform where I received continuous guidance and support. I felt valued, which helped me gain confidence in my new role. Within a couple of months, I knew there were opportunities for me to progress my career and fulfil my potential.
Since completing the programme, I have progressed further, continuing to build my experience and I currently work as a Business Analyst. The people at Vhi truly ‘Lead With Heart’ and the relationships I have gained to date, on my journey, have been very fulfilling.

I have a Masters Degree in Management. My experience as a student was quite broad so when I came across the Vhi Graduate Programme I felt it was the perfect opportunity to ensure I had support and guidance to help me develop my career path.
My first rotation has been in the HR team and one thing that has stood out is that we are first in line to foster the organisations values and really work hard to bring those to life, so that all colleagues can see how they connect to our mission – to help our customers live longer, stronger, healthier lives. One thing about my team that is admirable, is that together we get the work done to ensure colleague satisfaction - because when we have happy colleagues, we have happy customers. I am really looking forward to the rest of the programme and getting experience with the Finance team next!

I studied Software Systems Development in SETU, Waterford which gave me an insight into the world of IT, exposing me to mobile and web applications, databases, business developments and structures. I chose Vhi as a place to continue my learning and gain experience by getting the opportunity to work with the evolving technologies used across Vhi.
As a graduate, starting out with little information of the IT ‘working world’ was a little daunting at first, but my team has been great in providing me with plenty of support and I feel like I am a vital part of the Vhi team.
I started in our Vhi Graduate Programme in October 2022 working in the DevOps stream, and with the help and support of my colleagues I have learned so much in my short time here. As part of my role, I provide services that support the people I work with and in turn, supporting our customers.
I am happy to be part of a team that is creating a new future for our customers and patients – ‘Courage To Create A New Future’ is what a career in Technology is all about, helping to improve the lives of everyone.

I completed my Masters in Management from UCD in 2022 and during my studies got an offer to join the Vhi Graduate Programme. I accepted the offer without any hesitation as I knew Vhi was going through a period of transformation which I wanted to be a part of.
I am nearing completion of my first rotation in Finance and it has been very rewarding. It gave me a deep insight of the insurance industry and the ‘lingo’ that comes with it. I also learned the basics of Tableau along with the budgeting process and analysis which I enjoyed the most. All this was only possible due the immense support and hospitable culture in the team, where I was always encouraged to ask questions and make sure my opinions were valued.
I believe collaboration is the key to create innovative ideas to transform the future, and Vhi highlights this perfectly with the value 'Together We Do Our Best Work'. I can’t wait to see what experiences I can gain in my upcoming rotation.

I am taking part in the Vhi Graduate Programme since October 2021, as part of the technology stream and I work as a SOC Analyst. There is plenty of scope to learn in every department and as part of my role within the team, I help to maintain the standards of our cyber security framework to keep the environment secure. This has been a fantastic opportunity for me to gain experience, as we are using advanced technology and tools to maintain security strength.
During my time with Vhi, I have worked on NIST cyber security, Incident Response, Certificate Management, Vulnerability Management, supported our IAM system (Identity and Access Management) and gained certification as an AWS Cloud Practitioner.
Sarah Hunston
I studied a Bachelor of Business Studies (Management) in Maynooth University and graduated in 2020. I decided to go straight into a MSc in Human Resource Management in UL.
The Vhi Graduate Programme is helping me to develop a greater knowledge of different areas in business and gain a broad skillset. As part of my first rotation, I have worked on the launch of new critical healthcare software, where doctors and clinicians can access resources to help them with their daily work life and access patient education – which really brings to life the value I can add to the business.
I enjoy working in Vhi on exciting projects and celebrating successes within my team, which really bring to life how ‘Together We Do Our Best Work’!
Varun Vaishampayan
As a recent MSc marketing graduate from Trinity College Dublin, I chose to work for Vhi due to its reputation. As the largest health insurance provider in the country, Vhi's focus on improving healthcare and investing in the wellbeing of its employees, proved a strong combination.
Vhi offers a dynamic and inclusive workplace with ample opportunity for personal and professional growth. My most cherished experience at Vhi to date, has been in the Strategy Team, where I was part of creating a comprehensive 'Competitor Report'. This experience provided me with high-level insights into Vhi’s operations, its competitors, and the overall workings of the healthcare industry.
My team fosters a culture of great teamwork, collaboration and support. It creates a fantastic environment for personal and professional development and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the programme has in store for me.
