26th August 2025 - Vhi announced an average price increase of 3% on its health insurance plans effective from 1st October 2025. The price increase is necessary as Vhi navigates the dual challenges of an increase in demand for healthcare and an increase in the cost of delivering that healthcare. The volume of healthcare delivered to members in private hospitals, day hospitals and non-hospital settings has increased by 9% in the last 12 months. Meanwhile the cost of delivering that healthcare also continues to rise. In 2025, Vhi saw a 13% increase in private hospital claims costs when compared to 2024 and a 9% increase in the cost of primary care claims.
Mr. Aaron Keogh, Managing Director, Vhi Insurance Dac said “The price increase is necessary as the demand for care and the cost of delivering that care continues to rise. We ensure that our members can continue to access the care that they need and, therefore, have to price accordingly. We understand that health insurance is a significant investment for our members, which is why we continue to offer a wide range of plans to help meet their healthcare needs at various pricing points, also keeping our entry level plans as affordable as possible.
He said: “We know that the demand for healthcare services will continue to grow given Ireland’s ageing population and continued increase in the incidence of chronic disease. Significant shifts in how healthcare is delivered are required to meet this demand and prevention and intervention models will be critical to creating a sustainable future healthcare model. Vhi is continually making changes to how healthcare is delivered, members now have better access to healthcare in a wider range of settings including private hospitals, day hospitals, non-hospital settings and in their home. We offer remote delivery of psychiatric services in daycare and hospital settings. We provided over 100K digital health consultations with GP’s, dieticians, physiotherapy and speech and language therapists in 2024, a 30% increase on the previous year. We operate a Hospital@Home service which delivers multidisciplinary care in members’ homes and allows suitable patients to avoid hospital admission or be discharged from hospital earlier. We will continue to invest in and develop innovative services like these to manage the challenge of increased demand for healthcare and the increasing costs associated with the delivery of healthcare.”
He said “Vhi exists solely for the benefit of our members. We continue to invest in healthcare and services that supports the delivery of healthcare that is more sustainable, affordable and leads to better health outcomes. In 2025 we expanded our nationwide network of Vhi 360 Health Centre’s to six having recently opened a new much needed Vhi 360 Health Centre in Galway. We have also launched new healthcare partnerships with the UPMC Sports Surgery Network for musculoskeletal care and extended our partnership with Kingsbridge Healthcare Group with the addition of Kingsbridge Private Hospital in Belfast. We will also extend cover for the new Bons Secours Hospital in Limerick when it opens shortly. We will continue to work with healthcare partners on developing new models of care that will lead to better health outcomes for our members.”
